ALL SAINTS LOCAL HISTORY GROUP
 The Early 17th Century Font  The
present finely carved font dates from 1618.
In
October 2005 During a visit to the church by Mr John Maddison,
a
member of the Diocesan Advisory Committee; he noticed that two
of
the patterns decorating the upper part of the font were from a
book
of designs by Sebastiano Serlio, an architect who created designs
for a
whole range of uses, from ceiling decorations to layouts for
knot
gardens.
These patterns appear in the fourth book of 'Five Books on
Architecture'
which were published in their English translation in
1611.
