SHIP INN / SHIP HOUSE

The old Ship Inn, now Ship House, before renovation in the 1940's.

The Ship Inn (Alehouse) was, for many years, situated in Shepherdsgate Road.
The first listed licensee was RICHARD BRIDGEMAN, who was also listed on the
census returns as Publican and Farmer. He was licensee from 1836 until 1869.
THOMAS SNASDELL was licensee from 1871 until 1879 followed by
THOMAS WARD in 1883 until 1933.
GRACE EMILY  HEARLE became the last licensee  in 1936 until 1939.

The house was purchased by  Steward and Patterson in 1929. The license was removed in 1939 and transferred
to the PRINCESS VICTORIA, Walpole St Andrew on 13th March 1939.
The  property was then sold by Steward and Patterson and was purchased by one of the sons of the last landlady,
Mrs G Hearle and was extensively renovated as can be seen below in about 1946..........

We are very grateful to Deb Hearle for permission to copy and show his personal photographs of Ship House.
