The Shoreboat Inn has a long history in the village. On a map dated 1826 the Shoreboat is already an established Inn. It
is also mentioned in the 1845 edition of White's Directory. The 1841
census for Tilney All Saints lists
Elizabeth BECKINGTON, 59, and in White's Directory of 1845 it lists Eizabeth and her son Charles as Publicans. In 1851 the licensee is George Stearne, Farmer and Publican, he is here until 1865. 1869 sees John LINFERD, who stays until about 1875. In Kelly's 1869 Directory it is named as THE SHOVEBOAT. 1879 intil 1904 sees Charles FENDICK as licensee. George COUSINS is landlord from 1908 until 1912, then Wiliam HUBBARD from 1916 until 1922. In 1925 we have William Henry WHITING who is landlord until circa 1933. By 1936 James JOHNSON is presiding over the bar but by the end of the year Bernard Doubleday is ensconsed behind the bar. William DAVIS is there in 1951 and he was there until the closure of the Inn in 1962, when the license was surrended. TO PEOPLE and PLACES OR AERIAL MAP |
